Facilitating Research, Scholarship & Creative Activity

Cayuse Outside Interests now serves as a portal to manage all disclosure and request forms related to Conflicts of Interest and Commitment. You may access any COI disclosure form or EPAP request form through this website.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE PROCESS (YEARLY)

All faculty and EPA non-faculty are required to do a yearly COI disclosure. This is in addition to the External Activities for Pay form. To learn more, see the Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Policy at https://policy.uncg.edu/university_policies/conflicts-of-interest-and-commitment-policy/

SPONSORED RESEARCH CONFLICT OF INTEREST TRAINING (EVERY 4 YEARS)

**updated 4/15/2021 to state training is required every 4 years. Previous requirement was every 3 years.

As a condition of federal funding, the University must establish procedures that provide a reasonable expectation that the design, conduct and reporting of research will be free from bias resulting from Investigator Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOIs or COIs).

Federal regulations required that UNCG:

  1. Maintain a current, documented, and enforced COI policy
  2. Educate Investigators as to UNCG’s COI policies and procedures
  3. Facilitate and ensure Investigator compliance with initial and ongoing COI disclosure requirements
  4. Identify and manage COIs
  5. Flow down sponsor COI requirements to subrecipients/collaborators
  6. Meet sponsor and other COI reporting requirements

UNCG requires the completion of the COI training at least once every four years. To comply with these requirements, UNCG has instituted online COI training and require that a COI disclosure form be completed.  Any person who is responsible for the design, conduct or reporting of research must complete the training and disclosure form.

This includes:

  1. Principal Investigator/Project Director
  2. Key Personnel (an individual who contributes in a substantial and measurable way to a project.

This may also include:

  1.  Outside collaborators (e.g. subrecipient Investigators, consultants) and
  2.  Any other faculty, staff, post-docs, graduate students, or even technicians identified in the proposal.

Individuals can go to the COI Training page to find out how to complete the certification process.

For more information contact Lisa Goble, Export Controls and Conflict of Interest Official, at 336-256-1173 or lagoble@uncg.edu.

SPONSORED RESEARCH CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE (BY PROPOSAL SUBMISSION)

Unlike the Conflict of Interest Training which is general to the University, the Conflict of Interest Disclosure is specific to the project. It must be completed each time a proposal is submitted to an external sponsor. As with the training, the following individuals on the project must complete a disclosure:

  1. Principal Investigator/Project Director
  2. Key Personnel (an individual who contributes in a substantial and measurable way to a project.

This may also include:

  1.  Outside collaborators (e.g. subrecipient Investigators, consultants) and
  2.  Any other faculty, staff, post-docs, graduate students, or even technicians identified in the proposal.

Cayuse Outside Interests will support a *new* business process regarding Conflict of Interest disclosure for research projects. Effective July 1, 2021, any personnel involved in the design, conduct, or reporting of a research project must submit a financial conflict of interest disclosure. Proposals will not be submitted to the sponsor by OSP until all COI disclosures have been completed and certified by the Office of Research Integrity.

UNSPONSORED RESEARCH CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE (BY PROJECT)

Each university research project (sponsored or unsponsored) requires Project-Specific Conflict of Interest Disclosure forms filed in a timely manner for each university employee, student, or trainee involved in the design, conduct, or reporting of the research project for whom one or more of the answers posed in the disclosure form is “yes.” The university PI is obligated to ensure that any potential conflict of interest that exists in relation to the research project is reported as required by our university Conflict of Interest and Commitment Policy.
