  • We support innovative, thought-provoking investigations in architecture; architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; visual arts; and related fields of inquiry. Our interest also extends to work being done in the fine arts, humanities, and sciences that expands the boundaries of thinking about architecture and space. In an effort to bridge communities and different fields of knowledge, we support a wide range of practitioners (such as architects, scholars, critics, writers, artists, curators, and educators) and organizations (such as non-profit galleries, colleges and universities, publishers, and museums). National Endowment for the Humanities

  • Public Humanities Projects – The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. NEH encourages projects that involve members of the public in collaboration with humanities scholars or that invite contributions from the community in the development and delivery of humanities programming. Application available: November 19, 2018; Draft due: November 28, 2018; Application due: January 9, 2019 https://www.neh.gov/grants/public/public-humanities-projects
  • Media Projects: Development Grants – The Media Projects program supports documentary film, television, radio, and podcast projects that engage public audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. All projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship in disciplines such as history, art history, film studies, literature, religious studies, philosophy, or anthropology. Projects must also demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical. The approach to the subject matter must go beyond the mere presentation of factual information to explore its larger significance and stimulate reflection. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects that we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience. Application available: November 19, 2018; Draft due: November 28, 2018; Application due: January 9, 2019 https://www.neh.gov/grants/public/media-projects-development-grants

  • Digital Humanities Advancement Grants – Digital Humanities Advancement Grants (DHAG) support digital projects at different stages throughout their lifecycles, from early start-up phases through implementation and sustainability. Experimentation, reuse, and extensibility are hallmarks of this program, leading to innovative work that can scale to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities. You can find a discussion of the forms that experimentation can take in the Frequently Asked Questions document. This program is offered twice per year. Proposals are welcome for digital initiatives in any area of the humanities. Application available: October 23, 2018; Draft due: December 4, 2018; Application due: January 15, 2019 https://www.neh.gov/grants/odh/digital-humanities-advancement-grants
  • Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections – The Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections (SCHC) program helps cultural institutions meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations by supporting sustainable conservation measures that mitigate deterioration, prolong the useful life of collections, and support institutional resilience: the ability to anticipate and respond to disasters resulting from natural or human activity. Application available: November 20, 2018; Draft due: December 20, 2018; Application due: January 31, 2019 https://www.neh.gov/grants/preservation/sustaining-cultural-heritage-collections

National Endowment for the Arts Challenge America Program

  • The Challenge America category offers support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations — those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Age alone (e.g., youth, seniors) does not qualify a group as underserved; at least one of the underserved characteristics noted above also must be present. Please provide details about the underserved audience you select in your application using relevant statistics and anecdotal information. Proposals should detail the efforts made to reach the identified underserved population. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development. Application deadline: Submit to Grants.gov by April 11, 2019; Submit to Applicant Portal: April 16-23, 2019 https://www.arts.gov/grants-organizations/challenge-america/grant-program-description
