UNCG Sponsored Programs

Facilitating Research, Scholarship & Creative Activity

Recent changes in federal regulations have prompted all universities to revise the manner in which we handle Conflict Of Interest (COI).  To facilitate these changes and the overall management of COI, UNCG has implemented Activities, Interests, and Relationships (AIR), a module associated with RAMSeS.  If you are unfamiliar with AIR, I have included an email below from the Office of Sponsored Programs sent earlier this fall.  This email explains the recent change in the manner in which investigators are asked to report activities, interests, and relationships that may result in financial conflicts of interest related to specific projects.

We are now implementing the Conflict of Interest training module associated with AIR. Training is a requirement of the revised federal regulations. The purpose of the training is to ensure that you are aware of the new federal regulations, UNCG’s revised COI policy, and the roles and responsibilities of the institution and the individual investigator in following policy guidelines.   Implementation of the training module will result in the  following:

  • The next time you receive an email asking you to answer project-specific conflict of interest questions (i.e., the next time you play a role in the design, conduct, or reporting of a project submitted via RAMSeS), you will be asked to complete COI training prior to completing the disclosure questions.
  • The training is brief and should take approximately 30 minutes.
  • The AIR system will automatically track that you have completed the training.  Certification of training is good for 4 years.  Individuals may be required to complete the training again before the 4 year period if they are found to be in violation of the UNCG COI policy.
  • Special Note to NIH investigators: If you are part of a research team that received an NIH Notice of Award on or after August 24, 2012, you will be prompted in the next several weeks to go ahead and complete the training.

Subject: Conflict of Interest Notification for RAMSeS Submission: [coi.relatedNum]
Body: To:  Investigator Name

URGENT: You are receiving this notice because you are identified as a “Investigator” on an application to the RAMSeS titled “[coi.projectTitle]“, submitted by Principal Investigator:[coi.leadPI_fName] [coi.leadPI_lName] to Sponsor: [coi.sponsorName]. If you have questions about your participation as a member of the research team, please contact the Principal Investigator directly.

University policy requires that members of the research team complete a conflict of interest disclosure. Please click on the following URL: https://testuncg.myresearchonline.org/air/eform_screens.cfm?masterId=14424 to proceed.

Your prompt attention is appreciated. Failure to respond will prevent approval of this application. Questions on conflict of interest may be directed to the OSP.

Thank you.

Once the Investigator logs into the AIR system, there are five (5) sections to complete.  Each Investigator should be able to complete the all the sections in less than 10 minutes.

Please alert your faculty to this new requirement and let me know if you have any questions.  Also, you can direct your faculty to me should they need any additional information or explanations on AIR.

Thank you.
